Analysis

               I choose this song because it is very strong and the story inside of the song is a resolute girl. This story is a typical story of a girl that have a boyfriend but his boyfriend and her are very different. We notice that she seems to love him but we all know that is not easy to be with someone because with the time you will explote; because in that relations the person tends to change the way they are and with the time you will need what you were. This is the reason why I like the song she is brave to say exactly what she think and to finish with him for her not for anyone else. We see in the beginning of the song that the rythm is very slow that is because she is trying to demonstrate that she is suffocated. Then she practicly scream that she cannot make him to grow up , in that moment the rithm began to get fast an louder. That makes us think that she is desperate because she cannot do anything, he is driving her crazy. Maybe she loves him but he do not leave her another option. In the choir she tried not to feel him guilty and she is saying that she tried but she could not keep into the relation. Later come the short paragraph that it is with another rythm but with a loud tone trying to get the atenttion of what she wanna tell but  the great part is that the tone make the important words stand out. In this sentence she is saying that she have change and indirectly for his love and he cannot change it so she is saying that there will not be an oportunity for him. And we can notice that she like “flakea” when she remember that he is hot but then she continue with her decision, at the end she repeate that he lost his oportunity. That frase that he is hot makes us think too that she loves him but if he is just a child, they better move apart.

A childish infatuation

Love comes in different ways, sometimes you are beloved and sometimes you are not. Anyway love comes; the most important thing is what you do to hold it and being careful of what you do. Love is important but sometimes we have to put ourselves first because some people do not value you for who you are. Then it is when we have to think with the head and not with the heart. The big problem here is that in some occasions that crush or that love makes us blind. This essay will present the reality and meaning the stories, the similarities and the differences in the stories “Araby” a young boy who fall in love with the sister of his friend and “A Very Short Story” s a soldier who falls in love with a nurse. The main idea in both stories is love, but more than love they are stories about a boy and a man that have a childish infatuation making them to do that what will make their crush fall in love with them.

 Falling in love in some ways is very difficult and we have to be very careful. We see that in “Araby” it is a boy that thinks he has fallen in love but in reality it is an infatuation because he sees her like some goal that he wants to achieve. She was older than him and the first time that she talked to him, she only showed herself very interested in having something from the bazaar and nothing more. But for him she was that star that he wanted to touch, and we all know that you cannot touch a star unless you have a rocket. He saw the souvenir that she wanted like that rocket that will take him to that star (her). We see that all along the story he only thought in that souvenir because for him the souvenir was the key to making Mangan’s sister fall in love with him. This expectation that makes him think that she could possibly fall in love with the gift from the bazaar is that innocence that we all have with our first love. We would do everything that could make that person fall in love with us. In time we learn that it does not work in that way. It was understandable that he thought that way because he was a young boy; for sure she was his first love.

 In “A Very Short Story” we see that they wanted to be together but there were some obstacles that did not let them be together. They never had the chance to know each other but they were being together at night as a couple and in addition they never mentioned that none of them were being unfaithful. This is when the infatuation began, we see later that they talked about marrying each other before he went to the war but it could not be possible. She sent him many letters telling him that, when he finishes the armistice that if his gat a good job maybe she would marry him get. The third paragraph then says: “It was understood he would not drink, and he did not want to see his friends or anyone in the states. Only to get a job and get married.” Now we see that he had hope and he wanted to do what she wanted because he wanted to be with her. Later in the story she meets an Italian man and all his hopes vanished. They understood then that all that happened between them was a boy and girl affair.

These two “boys” in both stories have the same situation they are in love with a woman or a girl and they tried to be together with them by giving something or doing something that will bring them together. There are some differences too, they are from different ages but their minds are not so different and their goal was the same. The love made them blind and this is a good example in both stories, we see that the girl talked to him with an interest to have something from the bazaar and the woman says: “Luz will not come home until he had a GOOD JOB…”, if she was in love she could have waited for him and helped him find a good job like she wanted him too. When the stories come to an end, we notice the characters had an infatuation or a boy and girl love, the difference between them is that the boy understood what happened and learned but the man just contracted gonorrhea from the first girl that seemed kind to him just like he did with the nurse. He came back to do the same and we can see the irony in the author when he describes the other girl like “…he contracted gonorrhea from a sales girl in a LOOP department store…” maybe it was too late to learn.

With these stories from different authors we see similarity and differences, but we see the same idea in the stories. The difference becomes a good lesson because, those who do not learn it are big example of what could happen if they do the same, if you learn it you have an opportunity to began again. We have to learn to differentiate between what is a true love and just a company like the nurse and the soldier, a sex relationship and the girl in “Araby” that she never made a move that would make him understand that she was in love. I think that the most important thing is not to create a pattern doing the same thing over and over again because you will be alone all your life and everyone will play with you. And a very important thing: NEVER MAKE SOMEONE A PRIORITY WHEN THEY ONLY MAKE YOU AN OPTION! 

 

 

The weakness of Othello

When I began to read Othello, I thought that the most marvelous character was Othello himself. Everybody around him loves him, with reason, as he was a man that progress in his life, he was strong and sure of himself. Othello was an honorable man no matter were he was from or his race. In that first scene, it was amazing how he argued, defending himself in front of the father of the woman that he loved and had married moments ago. There was not another astonishing character like him, then the story began to take a twist. Iago a “friend” of him began to construct a plan to destroy him because Othello had overlooked him to be his lieutenant. It was here that his dependance on others started to portray him as weak, for the example the situation with Desdemona, were he believe in Iago and let him take charge of his decisions.

           

              In first place, Othello depends to much in Iago. He never searched for the truth by himself and when you have a serious situation like this one you have to go deep in it to know the truth. Othello needed to handle the fragile situation with more caution, as a wrong decision can bring an unwanted result. Then Othello made the fatal choice of leaning on Iago and believing in him. That was Iago’s key to use him, and Othello was not very bright in finding out what Iago was doing to his life.

            In second place Othello did not bear malice to anyone until Iago began to poison his mind. We see that when they win against the Turks, he was a secure man and all his trust belonged to Desdemona the women that he truthfully loved and the other part of his trust belonged to Cassio, his chosen lieutenant. After Iago’s plan began to develop, Othello changed the way he treated Desdemona and Iago, in both of the movie the character Cassio tried to talk to him and Othello just ignore it. On one occasion when Othello ask Desdemona where was the handkerchief he had given her and she said that she had seen it but she could not find it at that moment, he gets really angry instead of asking her what happened. Othello trusted Iago a lot, which is understandable because he was his friend, but Othello practically put Iago in charge of his life. The accusations that Iago was making against his wife were very strong and for those strong accusations he should also showed him strong proof. The handkerchief in Cassio’s hands could be a motive for him to investigate not to misjudge and make conclusions. A key to not believe in Iago, was when he told Othello that Desdemona was cheating on him with Cassio. Othello said that he was very jealous, he probably could have though that he was seeing something that was not there.

                

                 In third place, Othellos biggest weakness would be Desdemona. When he got married with her, he was alone in Venice he did not have a family, so she become everything to him. When you want to destroy someone you search for a persons weakness and attack it, so thats what Iago did. It is understandable why Othello collapsed after Iago told him that she was cheating on him with Cassio, because she was all that he had. The news from Iago made him weak because she was the most important thing for him and if you do not have something to fight for in life you find refuge in others and that was what he does. That was the moment that Othello became the puppet of Iago.

           

              Finally I think that Othello was a strong man but it is unfortunate and unbelievable that he let Iago poison his mind. In the other hand maybe it was understandable that he trusted in Iago because he had the skill to structure and develop a very complex plan. Maybe if Othello was more curious and keen to investigate by himself and not to let others solve his problems the story would be different. This will teach everyone that you cannot trust completely in anyone because we see some faces but we do not see the hearts and behind something or someone it can be amazing what you will find.

 

 

The actions of Othello

     In the first scene, Othello seems to be very intelligent because he confronts the father of Desdemona without care of the false arguments that Roderigo tells Brabantio. In the discussion about the false kidnapping of Desdemona he did not scream he just talk very quietly and made arguments that favored his side all the time. But his intelligence began to change when Iago made a vengeance plan. When Iago makes Roderigo fight Cassio and ruins the name of Cassio, Othello immediately fired Cassio without investigating the event before mentioned. I think that if he had chosen him to be his lieutenant is was because he was a good man and that he was a man that he can trust so the last thing that he would could do was to investigate the event and not to fired him for the first thing that he did wrong , we are all humans and we all make mistakes. Then Iago continues his vengeance plan, making Othello believe that Desdemona was unfaithful to him, after some little things that Iago made him see, Othello convinced himself that Desdemona was unfaithful to him. If Othello married Desdemona, before he took any action, he should have talked to her to know what was going on and if he was so sure that she was unfaithful, he first needed to have very good proof. If I was in his position, I would have assembled the three of them to know who was lying, then after that, he could make the correct decision. Because in the play he lets Iago wash his head with lies then he was deaf for the explanation of Desdemona or Cassio and blind with fury of the lies that Iago construct for his vengeance plan and obviously he makes the wrong decisions. Finally all the innocents and specially his true love payed for his absurded judgement of justice.   

Where do I learn English ?

     Since I was a kid I have studied in a bilingual school but it never made sense to me because I would never learn english in my classroom. My english teacher was very busy with her favorite student so I search every way to learn english myself.

     The first option that I choose was to read some books! Then I went to the library to get some books so I could began to read. When I got home I took a dictionary ,english trough spanish, and I began to read. Later I noticed that this way that I was trying to learn English was not efficient because it was slow and obviously I was not able to ear the pronouncement of the words and I was needing too to learn how to speak it. So I took another way.

     Since kids, my mom was a freak for movies… she bought every movie for us. For that time the movies were on cassettes so my second option was to choose the ones that have had subtitles. Everyday I was sitting in my home watching a different movie with a dictionary. Then came the DVD’s ,that were more useful because Americans sometimes talk very fast and it was confusing for me that I was trying to learn. So my decision was to watch the movie in english, the subtitles in spanish so I was able to match the words and if I did not knew the word then i would search it in the dictionary. After the time passes with the practice I was not using the dictionary just when it was a word like very strange or rare. then i was able to read almost everything that I like.

     Finally since I study here in the “Colegio” everything is easier because I know english. Sometimes the professor the only language that he or her talk is english and the books are in english I know that is hard for those who do not want to learn english or just they do not Know for any reason because english is a universal language. Now I feel comfortable choosing any professor without worrying that I will not be able to understand him. From this experience i understand that you must help yourself when no one else will.
